Frequently Asked Questions
WHY ARE YOU CALLED SCENTIENT DOG TRAINING? WHAT DOES "SCENTIENT" MEAN?
Sentient means "able to be aware, to perceive and experience feelings". Dogs are sentient beings and in training them we are sensitive to their experience. We use positive reinforcement so the dog not only learns effectively but also enjoys the training sessions as much as we do.
"Scent"ient, because in addition to manners and life skills training, we specialize in canine scentwork. See our Scentwork Classes.

why do you use only positive training methods?
Positive training methods are based on the science of learning. We are committed to using only training methods that strengthen the bond between owners and their dogs. Fear and force based methods cause dogs to shut down - even if they comply! Our goal is to foster trust and enthusiasm for learning in the dogs and owners we train.
